So today was my first 5K! Nevermind that I ended up walking most of it. Nevermind that I now have sunburn on one side of my face because I forgot to wear my sunglasses or that I may be blind in one eye. Nevermind that it was like 90 degrees at 8:00 am and that by the time we got going it felt like at least 100 degrees. I went to my first 5K today and even though it was nasty hot and I walked - I went and I started and I FINISHED.
This entry wasn't really intended to start out so positive, but when I started writing it - it just came out that way. I've already learned a lot from this experience. First of all, I don't really like being in the middle of the pack. The first 4 mintues was frustrating for me because there were a lot of elbows and, dare I say?, pushing. Like everyone was lined up for a sale at Nordstroms and they were offering a free pair of shoes to the first 100 people. I think I am much better at the back of the pack. Since they time you, it wouldn't have made much of a difference to start at the end.
Second, I hate hot weather! That really isn't a new revelation, but I thought I'd just put that in here. Third, it doesn't matter if it isn't sunny - bring your sunglasses! Right now the left side of my face feels like it's going to peel off.
Lastly, I learned that I have a lot of practicing to do. In the beginning 3.2 miles didn't seem like a lot and it isn't if you're sitting in your car driving it or riding your bike or even walking it. But, add to that the heat and the fact that you're running and for some reason it may as well have been a marathon. I learned so much today; especially about myself.
